Small Bites Series Continues — join us!

Each class in the small bites series is focused on new and fun techniques. Just 1.5 hours long (or 3 hours for the Wednesday night "Larger Bite" stamp carving class), we dive in a flurry of creative activity—and walk away with a whole new medium to work with in our own mixed media pieces. We have four fun classes coming up in July. You can learn more about this series and classes here andregister here.

Emboss What?

Sunday July 17, 10am-11:30am

We typically associate the technique of embossing with card-making. And yes, technically, to emboss is to create raised relief elements on paper—often shiny and sparkling relief elements with embossing inks and powders. So let's take this tried and true technique to a whole new level. You will learn how to heat emboss—and gain familiarity with the differences in embossing products—and then we will break out of the mold and explore different ways to add embossed sparkle and shine to your mixed media artwork in surprising ways and using surprising materials.

Cut-outs, Windows and Tip-Ins

Friday July 15, 12pm-1:30pm
OR
Sunday July 24, 10am-12:30pm

Why does a journal page or even a canvas have to be one dimensional and only visual?  We can apply some construction techniques to our art journal pages and mixed media pieces and add all kinds of interactive, tactile and surprising elements. Learn to build, join, saw, carve and bend your mixed media elements and let your imagination run wild with all the fun techniques you learn in this class.

Hand-Carved Stamps

Extended 3-hour Larger Bite Technique Session

Wednesday, July 27, 6pm-9pm

It's great to use manufactured stamps in your mixed media work, but again, sometimes we want to make our mixed media pieces entirely our own and use only materials we make with our own hand.  As it turns out, it is quite easy to design and make your own rubber stamps—and it's an amazingly simple, satisfying and relaxing activity, too! And that's not to mention the satisfaction of building a personal collection of your own unique stamps. In this longer "larger bite" techniques class, you will learn how to create create your own hand-carved stamps—andwe will then also take it to the next level and learn some more complicated design-making techniques.

Metallic Embellishment

Friday, July 29, 12pm-1:30pm
OR
Sunday, August 7, 10am-12:30pm

There's nothing like the sheen of metal in our mixed media artwork. It's a category of its own!  As it turns out, there are a ton of metallic mediums and so many different techniques to add metallic embellishment to our artwork. In this class, we will explore a variety of little known techniques using metallic mediums such as acrylic paints, liquid inks, aluminum foil, craft foil and found metal...
